As Christopher Huttner traveled by car with his wife and three children from their South Carolina home to Beloit Thursday, some of his relatives gathered on the city's west side to talk about their efforts to raise money for his upcoming surgery during which 2002 Beloit Memorial High grad will become a living donor for his 7-month-old daughter, Valery.

“He's such a hero to me," said his mother, Tina Cole.After having two boys, Huttner and his wife, Carly, desperately wanted a girl and bought a pink crib, a pink car seat and pink curtains when they learned their dream was to come true.On April 3 Valery was born jaundiced, but doctors told her parents it would eventually go away. At 10 weeks the infant was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a rare liver disease.
